Quality Impact Teams work on multiple “fronts”
within school organizations, focusing on a model of
deployment that centers on supporting the creation
of schools that educate all children to achieve at
high standards. The QIT model of external coaching
provides intense, continuous, on-site professional
development that is embedded in individual practice
and the development of a collaborative culture that
results in and sustains improved learning by attending
to academic rigor and personalization. Schools are
consciously coached to examine organizational and
classroom design in the pursuit of knowing students
well and in becoming safe and trusting places to teach
and learn.
Recognizing the significance of effective leadership,
building principals, central office administrators
and school leadership teams are challenged to examine
their own practices while QIT coaches guide school
leaders in areas including designing and articulating
vision and mission, change processes and strategic
planning, team building, curriculum alignment, data
collection and analysis, articulation of standards,
assessment design, building authentic collegial relationships,
effective communication and research-based instructional
practices.
Instead of beginning professional development designed
directly at instructional strategies, QIT incorporates
a “backwards building” approach that begins
with assessment aligned to state standards. Coaches
provide continuous, on-site training and support to
redesign classroom instruction explicitly to meet
the academic needs of all students. A systematic,
intensive approach to differentiated professional
development is implemented to increase the knowledge
and capacity of teachers and administrators in scientifically
research-based instructional methodology and to institutionalize
change in classroom practice for sustainability.
